Car rental is more interesting than car owning

Because of the rising costs of car ownership during the recent years, it is becoming more interesting to rent cars, rather than to own one. About 20% of the Dutch population is better of with a rental car. The turning point is now more than 8000 kilometers per year, while seven years ago ot was 7000 kilometers. Additionally, it is also better for the environment.

According to the Bovag, the assumption that a rental car is only interesting for people who travel very little, is incorrect. When travelling les than 8049 kilometers per year, you will be cheaper of with a rental car. The increase of the turning point, when compared to 2002 is due to the strong increases in car production costs. When travelling 5000 kilometers per year, the driver will save €1000 when renting a car.
